Home Hardware in Carleton Place was originally known as Muirhead's Hardware in the early 1900s, and was located at 143 Bridge Street.

In 1932, the business was purchased by George W. Eades, who became a charter member of Home Hardware Stores Ltd. in 1964.

At the time Mr. Eades purchased the business, it was a small, basic hardware operation with little inventory and plenty of long days. During Mr. Eades' tenure, the store increased from a 25 ft. frontage to 66 feet, and sold coal, heating oil, furniture and major appliances, in addition to having plumbing and electrical contracting departments.

As conditions changed, these extra departments were discontinued and the Hardware business evolved to what it is today. After Mr. Eades' death in 1968 his daughter Helen Kirkpatrick and Gerald Haskins ran the business until it was purchased by David Kirkpatrick in 1977.

In 1994, Mr. Kirkpatrick moved Eades Home Hardware to it's current location at 80 Lansdowne Avenue and sold the operation to Randy and Lisa Slater in September of 1995.
